Feminized Cannabis Seeds

The progress in plant biotechnology allow us to obtain a better performance and quality in all the vegetables that have been domesticated to take some advantage from them. From this point of view, cannabis also got plenty of attention in order to optimize the crops.

Hormone adjustment will allow us to influence the growing and development of the plants, as well as busting a reaction of the male phenotyp in a plant with female genotype, obtaining this way masculine flowers in plants that contain just female gender genes and therefore the produced polen is giving just female chromosomes to the inseminated egg. The use of this technique produces seeds where both egg and pollen provide X chromosomes, producing almost exclusively female features for the whole generations of seeds.

The methodology for producing feminized seeds consist of inhibiting the phytohormone ethylene that is responsible for maturation and ageing of the vegetal tissues and their sexual development.

It was in the late 90s when feminized seeds began to be marketed and they were not well accepted by the consumer. The techniques for getting a proper feminization were unkown, what lead to a lack of confidence. Therfore, the most demanded seeds were still the regular ones.

But biotechnological procedures have gained quality and our classical strains are the best example for this.
